A Special Award was introduced this year in memory of Bob Taylor
and named the "Bob Taylor Memorial Trophy"
awarded each year to the most improved bull rider of the year
2006 year was won by Beau Willis
Beau who lives in Bowen has won a trip to new Zealand
to represent Australia this year
The rodeo finished around 10-30 pm
arena games for family kids followed by
Fireworks at midnight which was a big hit with the children
The bar and disco rocked on till 3am and then workers including
Bill and Joan were on deck at 6 am to prepare breakfast for the campers
The Breath analyzer was used maybe 10 times this year
usually it does 100 or more tests so it just goes to prove
the Ram at the Dam Theory on drink driver education
Black River Stadium plans to hold 3 full rodeos in 2007
all dual affiliated with CRCA and ABCRA
and 2 motocrosses
the first rodeo for 2007 will be Sat 14th April 2007

Here is a comment about Black River Stadium .....
G’day mate..
A short story about The Black River trip, as we call it.
Well to get you up to speed to pre 2004, One of my best mates Pete, had just sold his house and basically had no where to live, other than his mothers. At the age of 30 it’s not really a good thing, and he just didn’t time the market right to buy another. So I did the honorable thing and offered him a bed.
At the time I also had a new friend Johnno who was living with me but only just knew him and it was through another friend that said help him, he needs a bed. Now my house aint big. in fact it’s only 2 bedroom, but my couch folds out and as long as you didn’t want privacy it was all good.
So as for me, I had just broken up with my wife of 6 years and 2 kids, and I needed the company. Over the next month or two we did the male bonding, drinking thing, around town Airlie, Brisbane, where ever, till we decided to do the road trip thing to Townsville. In the middle of all this we all had four wheel drives but only ever took Pete’s as it was a brand new RV Cruiser Ute with a canopy. Nice. So with no planning, like always, we set off. A few hours later, about Ayr, I think, the three of us all saw a sign on the side of the road and thought nothing of it. It wasn’t til Townsville that we had seen a number of these signs and I finally spoke up and said we must check this Black River 4x4 comp out. So it was favored, but not before a casino trip and after getting back from the casino and night clubs at 3 am, sleep was needed.
Only a few hours later we traveled to the spot we fell for. Beautiful ladies, rodeo events, 4x4’s and mud. What more do you want?. Now one particular event was the 4x4 recovery creek crossing, well to say the least we had a great laugh at Nissan’s expense, always being towed by a cruiser. Through out the day we were kept well amused with the rodeo, mud and girls, but I could not help my self to nudge Pete every time the announcement came over about the 4x4 show.
Taking upon myself I entered Petes shiny red cruiser, now from Mackay to Townsville and into a 4x4 show with nothing but a quick empty of kfc , we expected little. Pete is a simple man, never experienced much but it all changed when he walked up and received his first ever ribbon for best looking 4x4 and then another , 2nd in over all comp. Other gifts were accompanied which just made him the man.
Both Johnno and I could feel his excitement, still to this day we talk of it and feel it again. In the course of the week end we had met several lovely ladies, took large amount of photos, experienced one of the best rodeos since the beginning of time, and won some great memorable stuff.
We thank all those in the making of such an event. Keep it alive. At present Johnno is up in the gulf country somewhere, has been now for a year or so, Pete still lives with me but rarely see much of each other as due to I work out of town a lot and his female takes a lot of his time.
